Line Crew Information

Did you know that 14 year old Students Pilots who meet the requirements and have the authorization from an FAA Certificated Flight Instructor, Glider can Solo a Glider? That's right, the FAA recognizes that young people who apply themselves, receive the appropriate training and exhibit the skills and judgment to do so can fly a glider by themselves before they can drive a car alone.

LESC wants to foster this and has created this Line Crew / Youth Program where Junior Members can earn while they learn. For each day they work the line, helping other pilots launch, recover and move their gliders on the airport, the student will earn a free lesson and tow. Part of this program requires that these young pilots maintain at least a 3.0 or higher Grade Point Average and maintain a high moral character (i.e., any gang affiliations, legal infractions or reports of misconduct at home, school or in the community are disqualifying). Not only are we training top quality pilots, but we also want to help create productive members of Society. “GROUNDING” has a completely different meaning when you’re a student pilot in this program (something parents can leverage beyond our basic standards).
